Walking with the Saints at OLOR

At Our Lady of the Rosary, every class has a special patron saint who accompanies the children throughout their year. Our class saints give children inspiring examples of people who loved God, served others and used their God-given gifts to make a difference.

Throughout the year, children learn about their class saint, celebrate their feast day and reflect on the qualities and virtues that made their lives special. We encourage children to ask themselves:

“What can I learn from our saint, and how can I follow their example?”

Our class saints also provide a link between our Catholic faith, our school mission and our daily lives. Their examples help children to live out our mission:

Meet Our Class Saints

EYFS – Our Lady

Feast Day: 8th October
Mary is at the heart of our school community and is a wonderful role model for our youngest children. Through Mary, we learn about saying yes to God, trusting Him and showing love to others.

We can follow Mary's example by:

• saying yes when God calls us to do something good
• showing kindness and love
• trusting God
• caring for others

Year 1 – St Francis of Assisi

Feast Day: 4th October
St Francis of Assisi devoted his life to God and showed great love and care for people, animals and the natural world. His example reminds us that we have a responsibility to care for God's creation.

We can follow St Francis by:

• caring for creation
• being kind to people and animals
• showing generosity
• thanking God for the world around us

Year 2 – St Bernadette

Feast Day: 16th April
St Bernadette is remembered for her deep faith and humility. Despite difficulties in her life, she remained faithful to God and shared what she had experienced.

We can follow St Bernadette by:

• trusting in God
• being humble
• remaining faithful when things are difficult
• speaking honestly and courageously

Year 3 – St Thérèse of Lisieux

Feast Day: 1st October
St Thérèse believed that we can show great love through the small things we do each day. She called this her “little way” — loving God and others through simple acts of kindness.

We can follow St Thérèse by:

• doing small things with great love
• being kind to others
• helping without expecting anything in return
• showing love in our everyday actions

Year 4 – St Paul

Feast Day: 25th January – Conversion of St Paul & 29th June – Saints Peter and Paul
St Paul travelled widely sharing the Good News of Jesus. His life reminds us that people can change, grow in faith and use their gifts to serve God and others.

We can follow St Paul by:

• sharing the Good News
• being courageous
• using our gifts to help others
• persevering when things are difficult

Year 5 – St Christopher

Feast Day: 25th July
St Christopher is traditionally remembered as a man who dedicated himself to helping others. His story gives us a powerful reminder of the importance of service and helping people on their journey.

We can follow St Christopher by:

• helping others
• putting others first
• persevering when things are difficult
• using our strength to support those who need us

Year 6 – St John Bosco

Feast Day: 31st January
St John Bosco dedicated his life to educating, supporting and caring for young people. He believed strongly in the potential of every child and wanted young people to flourish.

We can follow St John Bosco by:

• encouraging others
• showing kindness and patience
• helping people to recognise their gifts
• making sure everyone feels valued and included

Saints in Action

Our saints remind us that holiness is not simply about knowing the right things. It is about how we choose to live. At OLOR, we encourage children to look for opportunities each day to follow the example of their class saint:

How can I love God?
How can I put others first?
How can I respect everyone?
How can I persevere when something is difficult?
