Collective Worship at OLOR

At Our Lady of the Rosary Roman Catholic Primary School, collective worship is central to our Catholic mission and daily life. Rooted in our mission, “Our Journey: Love God, Others First, Respect All and Persevere to Succeed,” worship brings our school community together to encounter Christ, deepen our faith and reflect on how the Gospel calls us to live. 

Through prayer, Scripture, reflection, music and song, pupils are encouraged to develop a personal relationship with Jesus and recognise that they are uniquely created, loved and valued by God. Our worship follows the liturgical year, enabling pupils to journey through the life of Christ and the Church as we celebrate Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter, Pentecost and significant feast days, particularly those connected to Our Lady. 

Collective worship supports pupils to grow in virtue and live out our school values of Excellence, Inclusion, Kindness, Respect and Resilience. Pupils are encouraged to reflect on their choices and consider practical ways to put our mission and Gospel values into action. The impact is seen in the kindness, compassion, forgiveness, respect and service they demonstrate towards others. 

Our worship also provides regular opportunities to explore Catholic Social Teaching, helping pupils understand the dignity of every person, care for creation, the common good and our responsibility to serve others, particularly those who are vulnerable or in need. 

Pupils are active participants in the prayer life of our school, leading prayers, readings, reflections, liturgies and acts of worship. Through these opportunities, they develop confidence, responsibility and a sense of ownership of their faith, recognising and using their God-given gifts in the service of others. 

Prayer is an integral part of school life, with class and whole-school prayer, Masses, liturgies, prayer services and opportunities for personal reflection. The Rosary holds a special place within our school, enabling pupils to reflect on the life of Jesus through Mary. Our strong relationship with our parish community helps pupils recognise that they belong to a wider Catholic family and encourages them to participate actively in the life of the Church. 

Collective worship enables pupils to understand that they are valued and loved as unique individuals, while developing respect for the dignity and uniqueness of others. Our aim is that every child leaves worship with something to think about, pray about or act upon, allowing their faith to shape the way they live. 

At Our Lady of the Rosary, we strive to ensure that Jesus remains at the heart of all we do. Through prayer, worship, service and reflection, we accompany every child on their journey of faith, enabling them to flourish spiritually, morally and personally as the people God calls them to be.
